A specialized microprocessor, or Digital Signal Processor (DSP), with an architecture designed for the high-speed computational demands of processing digital signals. Its instruction set includes specific operations for filtering, transforming, and compressing continuous real-world analog signals that have been converted to a digital form. DSPs are used in audio processing, telecommunications, radar, and medical imaging systems.
