A programmed pause or period of inactivity in a machine's operational cycle, where motion or action is temporarily stopped while other processes continue. In welding, it is the time a spot welder's electrodes are held on the workpiece after the current has ceased, allowing the weld nugget to solidify. The duration of this pause is a specific parameter in the machine's control program, measured in seconds or milliseconds.
