Workpiece

The piece of raw material or a partially finished part that is secured in a machine tool for a shaping, cutting, or finishing operation. It is the object upon which work is being done to transform it into a desired final shape with specific dimensions and surface quality. The workpiece is held stationary or rotated by a fixture, vise, or chuck during the process.
