Electrotype

A duplicate printing plate made by electroplating a thin layer of metal, typically copper or nickel, onto a mold taken from an original relief surface. This process creates a durable, high-fidelity reproduction of the original type or engraving. Electrotypes were widely used for long print runs to preserve the original plates.
