ELFEXT
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002019
A measure of interference between adjacent wire pairs in a twisted-pair cable, calculated as the ratio of far-end crosstalk to the insertion loss of the disturbed pair. This metric, Equal-Level Far-End Crosstalk, quantifies the unwanted signal coupling from a transmitting pair to a receiving pair at the opposite end of the cable, adjusted for the signal attenuation along the cable's length. ELFEXT is expressed in decibels (dB), and higher values indicate better cable performance; it is a key parameter specified in standards like ANSI/TIA-568 for network cabling.
