The total power in watts that a theoretical half-wave dipole antenna would have to radiate to produce the same signal strength as the actual source antenna in a specific direction. Effective Radiated Power is calculated by multiplying the power supplied to the antenna by the antenna's gain relative to a half-wave dipole. This value is a standard regulatory measure used by agencies like the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to license and control the strength of radio broadcast signals to prevent interference between stations.
