Parasitic element
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004135
An antenna component, such as a reflector or director, that is not directly connected to the transmission line but is positioned to modify the antenna's radiation pattern. It absorbs and re-radiates electromagnetic energy from the driven element, creating constructive or destructive interference to enhance directivity. The length and spacing of parasitic elements relative to the driven element and the signal's wavelength determine the antenna's gain and front-to-back ratio.
