Fall plate

A hinged or sliding plate that bridges the gap between a locomotive and its tender, or between two railway cars, providing a safe walkway for crew members. It allows access between the connected units while accommodating relative movement. Fall plates are a safety feature, preventing personnel from falling between vehicles.
