Fay

To join two pieces of material, such as wood or metal, so that their surfaces are in close and continuous contact. In shipbuilding and carpentry, faying involves shaping the mating surfaces to achieve a tight fit without gaps before fastening them together. The surface of one component that is in contact with another is known as the faying surface.
