Fish

To strengthen a cracked or weakened mast or spar by binding or bolting a length of wood, itself called a fish, along the damaged section so that it acts as a splint. The verb also covers hoisting an anchor's flukes up to the ship's rail with a fish tackle and securing it for sea. Fishing the anchor follows catting, in which the anchor's ring is first raised to the cathead.
