Fleeting
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002344
To guide a haulage rope laterally across the face of a winding drum so that it winds on or off in even, close-packed coils without overlapping. This controlled side-to-side movement prevents excessive wear and damage to the rope that would occur if it were allowed to pile up in one place. The action is performed either by a dedicated mechanism called a fleeting sheave or by the angled path of the rope between the drum and a fixed pulley.
