Gate box

The housing or enclosure containing the operating mechanism for a railway level crossing gate or barrier. This weatherproof cabinet protects the electric motor, gears, and control circuitry that raise and lower the crossing arm from environmental damage and unauthorized access. Gate boxes are typically located on a concrete foundation adjacent to the crossing and are a key component of the automated warning system.
