Flat crossing

A railway intersection where two or more tracks cross each other at the same level, without the use of points or switches to divert trains. Trains on one line must wait for trains on the other line to clear the intersection before proceeding. These crossings are often found in yards or at junctions where traffic volumes are managed by signaling systems.
