A nearly horizontal ore deposit or vein that cuts across the bedding planes of the surrounding host rock. These deposits are distinct from conformable beds or steeply dipping lodes and are a form of replacement deposit where mineralizing fluids have spread out along a favorable layer. The term is also used for a landing or stopping place in a shaft or inclined roadway.
