Focal depth
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002380
The distance along the optical axis over which an image is perceived as acceptably sharp, also known as depth of field. It is the zone extending in front of and behind the exact plane of focus where blur is within a tolerable limit. A larger aperture, indicated by a smaller f-number like f/1.8, produces a shallow focal depth, while a smaller aperture with a larger f-number like f/16 creates a much greater focal depth.
