Fork beam
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006989
A short half beam in a ship's deck framing that supports the deck planking or plating beside a hatchway, where a full beam would have to cross the opening. It runs from the ship's side only as far as the hatch opening instead of across the full breadth. A full beam, by contrast, spans the ship from side to side.
