Fork oil
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002410
The hydraulic fluid used inside the front suspension forks of a motorcycle or bicycle to provide damping. As the fork compresses and rebounds over bumps, the oil is forced through small orifices, creating resistance that controls the speed of suspension movement. Fork oil is rated by weight, such as 5W or 10W, which indicates its viscosity and determines the damping characteristics.
