Fuse

A safety device in an electrical circuit that protects against overcurrent by melting and breaking the circuit when the current exceeds a safe level. It consists of a metal wire or strip that heats up and fuses open under excessive current, interrupting the flow of electricity. Fuses are rated by their current capacity in amperes and their voltage rating, and must be replaced after activation.
