Circuit breaker
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001124
An automatic electrical switch that interrupts current flow when it detects an overcurrent from an overload or a short circuit. Unlike a single-use fuse, it can be reset either manually or automatically to resume normal operation after the fault has been cleared. Breakers are rated by the current they can safely interrupt, with industrial ratings ranging from a few amperes to thousands of amperes.
