Ghost island
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002564
A flush, painted area of lines and hatching in the carriageway, normally at a junction, that separates opposing traffic streams and gives turning vehicles a defined place to wait. Unlike a raised island, it is paint only, so it offers no physical protection and no refuge for pedestrians. It is the marked counterpart of a kerbed traffic island.
