Ground wire

A safety conductor in an electrical system that provides a low-resistance path for fault currents to flow directly to the earth, protecting equipment and personnel from electric shock. It connects the non-current-carrying metal parts of electrical equipment to the grounding electrode system. This wire is typically green or bare copper and is mandated by electrical codes like the National Electrical Code (NEC).
