Inclined plane

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007051

A simple machine consisting of a flat surface tilted at an angle to the horizontal, used to move objects to a higher or lower elevation with less force than lifting them directly. The force required to move an object up an inclined plane is reduced, but the distance over which the force must be applied increases. This principle is applied in ramps, wedges, and screws.
