LTE
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003456
A hazardous aerodynamic condition in helicopters, known as Loss of Tail-rotor Effectiveness (LTE), where the tail rotor cannot supply enough thrust to counteract the main rotor's torque. This results in an uncommanded and rapid yaw of the aircraft, which can lead to a loss of control. LTE is not a mechanical failure but an aerodynamic event most likely to occur during low-airspeed, high-power-demand flight, particularly with a tailwind.
