Luncart

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003467

A type of temporary or seasonal hut used by miners or shepherds in remote upland areas, particularly in Scotland. These simple shelters provided basic accommodation near a worksite, such as a small-scale mine or quarry, allowing workers to stay on-site for extended periods. Luncarts were typically constructed from locally available materials like stone and turf, and their remains can sometimes be found as archaeological features in former mining districts.
