Marrow

A workmate or partner in a mine, particularly in the historical coalfields of Northern England. Two or more miners would form a marrows team, sharing the work and earnings of a specific task or place within the pit. This system of partnership was fundamental to the organization of labor in hand-hewing coal mining operations before widespread mechanization.
