Movement
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003778
The internal mechanical assembly of an analog aircraft instrument that translates signals from sensors into the motion of a pointer or dial. It consists of a precise arrangement of gears, springs, shafts, and jewels that work together to display information such as airspeed, altitude, or engine temperature. These intricate mechanisms are calibrated to exacting standards and are increasingly being superseded by solid-state digital displays, which have no moving parts and offer greater reliability and integration with other avionics systems.
