Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003915
Describing the condition of an electrical machine or circuit when it is operating without any external mechanical or electrical load connected to its output. In this state, the machine draws only the current required to overcome internal losses, such as friction, windage, and core losses. A transformer operating at no-load still draws a small magnetizing current.
