Oil filter

A device for screening out abrasive particles and sludge from circulating lubricating oil in an internal combustion engine or hydraulic system. It contains a porous filter medium, typically made of synthetic fiber paper, that traps contaminants while allowing the oil to pass through. Most modern automotive engines use a spin-on, canister-style filter that is replaced as a single unit during routine maintenance intervals, which are specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
