Overspeed
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004094
A condition where a rotating machine or engine operates at a rotational speed exceeding its maximum design limit. This can lead to excessive stresses, vibrations, and catastrophic failure of components due to centrifugal forces. Turbines, generators, and internal combustion engines are equipped with overspeed protection systems, such as governors, to prevent this condition.
