Lock up

The condition where a mechanical system or component becomes rigidly fixed and unable to move, often due to excessive friction, jamming, or a failure in a control mechanism. This can occur in gears, brakes, or hydraulic systems, preventing normal operation. In automotive brakes, wheel lock-up can lead to a loss of steering control.
