Overstand

The condition in a forest where trees grow beyond their optimal size or age for timber production, resulting in reduced growth rates and increased susceptibility to disease or windthrow. This occurs when harvesting is delayed past the point of maximum economic return or biological productivity. Overstand can lead to a decline in wood quality and volume increment.
