Picqué work

A decorative technique involving the inlay of small points or strips of precious metal, such as gold or silver, into materials like tortoiseshell or ivory. The metal is pressed into the surface after it has been softened by heat, creating intricate patterns of dots, lines, and figurative designs. This method was particularly popular in the 17th and 18th centuries for decorating small luxury items like snuff boxes and jewelry.
