Popcorn

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004419

A failure in which moisture absorbed by a plastic part or package turns to steam during rapid heating, such as solder reflow, and the pressure blisters, cracks, or delaminates the material. It is best known in plastic-encapsulated integrated circuits and in printed circuit boards. Moisture-sensitive parts are therefore baked dry and sealed in dry packing before reflow soldering.
