Pounding block

A solid, durable block of material, such as hardwood, dense rubber, or urethane, used as a surface for striking objects with a hammer or mallet. It absorbs the shock of the blow and protects both the workbench surface and the workpiece from damage during assembly, shaping, or disassembly tasks. Pounding blocks are common in woodworking, metalworking, and leathercraft for setting rivets, forming parts, or seating joints.
