Run in
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007218
To set text continuously without paragraph breaks, often used for short items in a list or index to save space. This typographic style combines multiple entries onto a single line, separated by punctuation. A run-in heading integrates the heading text directly into the first line of the paragraph.
The initial, controlled operation of a new or rebuilt engine or machine to allow moving parts to wear together and form a good seal. During this period, components like piston rings and bearings conform to each other's surfaces, removing microscopic high spots and creating a smooth, load-bearing finish. The process is considered complete when oil consumption stabilizes and compression reaches its specified maximum value.
