Run around

To move a locomotive from one end of a train to the other, typically to change the direction of travel or to position it for shunting operations. This maneuver requires the locomotive to detach from the train, move onto an adjacent track, and then reattach to the opposite end. It is a standard procedure at terminal stations or sidings.
