Sand battery
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005040
A thermal energy storage system that uses sand or a similar granular material as a medium to store heat. Excess renewable energy, such as from solar or wind, heats the sand, which then retains the thermal energy for extended periods. This stored heat can later be released for industrial processes or district heating, typically operating at temperatures exceeding 500 degrees Celsius.
