Running sand
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005007
A condition where saturated, fine-grained sand loses its bearing capacity and behaves like a liquid under pressure or vibration. This occurs when water fills the voids between sand particles, reducing friction and allowing the particles to move freely. It poses a hazard in excavation and foundation work, requiring dewatering or stabilization techniques.
