Black sand

Heavy, dark-colored mineral grains, primarily magnetite, ilmenite, and other iron-rich minerals, often found concentrated in placer deposits alongside valuable minerals like gold or platinum. These sands are indicators of potential precious metal deposits and are separated during panning or sluicing. Their specific gravity is significantly higher than ordinary sand.
