Screed

A thin, top layer of material, typically a sand and cement mixture, laid over a concrete subfloor to create a smooth, level surface on which to install the final floor covering. It can also refer to the straight-edged tool used to level the surface of wet concrete or plaster by striking off excess material. The required thickness of a floor screed depends on the type, with bonded screeds starting at 25 mm.
