Shield

A heavy, movable support structure used in underground mining, particularly in longwall operations, to protect workers and equipment from falling rock at the working face. These hydraulic supports advance with the mining machine, creating a safe working environment. Shields are designed to withstand immense pressures from the overlying strata.
