Shot sample
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005239
A small, rapidly solidified metal sample taken from a molten bath for the purpose of chemical analysis. The sample is typically produced by pouring a small amount of the liquid metal into water or onto a chilled copper plate, which quenches it into small pellets or a thin disc. This rapid cooling preserves the chemistry of the melt at the moment of sampling for analysis by spectrometry.
