Skid

A landing gear configuration on helicopters consisting of two parallel tubes or runners that support the aircraft on the ground. Skids are simpler and more rugged than wheeled undercarriages, making them suitable for landing on unprepared or soft surfaces. They are also a common mounting point for external equipment like baskets or floats.
