An abbreviation for 'stockinette stitch' in knitting, a basic stitch pattern that produces a smooth, V-shaped texture on one side and a bumpy, horizontal texture on the other. It is created by knitting all stitches on one row and purling all stitches on the next row when working flat. When knitting in the round, all stitches are knitted.
