An abbreviation for "reverse stockinette stitch," a basic knitting pattern that creates a fabric with a bumpy, purl-stitch texture on the right side and a smooth, knit-stitch texture on the wrong side. It is formed by knitting all stitches on one row and purling all stitches on the next row, or by purling every stitch when knitting in the round. This stitch is often used for borders or as a contrasting texture.
