A Range-Extended Vehicle, which is a type of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle that uses an internal combustion engine solely to generate electricity. The wheels are driven exclusively by one or more electric motors, with power supplied by a battery pack. When the battery's charge is depleted, a small auxiliary power unit (APU), typically a gasoline engine, starts up to power a generator and recharge the battery or provide power to the motors, thereby extending the vehicle's total range.
