The process of backfilling voids in underground mines, such as stopes, with waste rock, tailings, or other aggregate material. This practice provides ground support to prevent roof collapse and surface subsidence, and it serves as a method for waste disposal. The material, known as fill, is transported into the void hydraulically, pneumatically, or by mechanical means.
