Void
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006477
An empty space, gap, or cavity within a solid material or between assembled components. In construction, voids in concrete or welds compromise structural integrity by creating weak points where stresses concentrate and failure can initiate. The percentage of void space in a granular material, such as soil or aggregate, is a measure of its porosity and affects properties like density and permeability.
