Voiceband

The range of frequencies within the audio spectrum that is used for the transmission of human speech. In telephony, this band is filtered to a nominal range of 300 to 3400 hertz, which is sufficient for intelligible conversation while conserving bandwidth. Digital transmission systems sample this analog signal at a rate of 8000 samples per second, according to the Nyquist theorem.
