Stud

A vertical framing member in a wall, providing support for finishes and carrying structural loads from floors or roofs to the foundation. These members form the skeleton of a framed wall, defining its shape and providing attachment points for sheathing and drywall. Standard wood studs are often 2x4 or 2x6 lumber, spaced 16 or 24 inches on center.
